While not officially released from the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday, Senate Bill 39 could be approved individually by Committee members and sent to the Senate floor at any time. It is important that you continue contacting your state Senator and urge him or her to oppose this unreasonable legislation.
If enacted into law, Senate Bill 39 would ban all private sales at Delaware’s two gun shows. The true intent of this legislation is to move towards an ultimate ban on all private sales -- even those between family and friends – regardless of where they occur.
This legislation would do nothing to combat crime as criminals will continue to obtain firearms illegally. Even Governor Markell’s office admits in his FAQ’s on his gun control agenda that gun shows are not a “Delaware specific issue.” Articles, such as the one linked here, objectively cover the issue but illustrate the failure to cite specific data that would mandate this legislation. Targeting your Second Amendment rights because politicians won’t crack down on criminals is wrong and cannot be tolerated.
Again, Senate Bill 39 has not been officially approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee but it is important that you continue to contact your state Senator and urge him or her to vote against Senate Bill 39 should it be approved and sent to the Senate floor for consideration!
