APPEARS IN Legal & Legislation

Nevada Campus Protection Act Scheduled to be Heard Tomorrow

Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Contact members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY!

Tomorrow, the Nevada Campus Protection Act (Senate Bill 231) will be heard in the Assembly Judiciary Committee at 8:30 a.m. in room 3138 of the Legislative building in Carson City.

It is important to call and e-mail members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY and urge them to pass SB 231, so this important self-defense bill has a chance to get to the Assembly floor before the 2011 legislative session adjourns on June 6.  Contact information for the Assembly Judiciary Committee can be found below.

Introduced by state Senator John Lee (D-1), SB 231 would allow individuals who hold a Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit to carry their firearm on the property of the Nevada System of Higher Education without first gaining permission from the university president, which is currently mandated by statute.  It has been a long-held policy within the campus administration to not allow permit holders to carry, which has created an environment where students, faculty and staff are left defenseless in gun-free zones.

This hearing will also be video-conferenced to room 4401 of the Grant Sawyer State Office Building, 555 East Washington Avenue in Las Vegas.
