Contact members of the state Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY!
By a 15 to 6 vote, the Nevada Senate passed Senate Bill 231, the Nevada Campus Protection Act, and it has been assigned to the Assembly Judiciary Committee. A committee hearing date has not been set, but we will keep you posted. In the meantime, please start calling and e-mailing members of the state Assembly Judiciary Committee TODAY and urge them to SUPPORT SB 231. Contact information for the state Assembly Judiciary Committee can be found here.
June 6 is the last day of legislative session so SB 231 will be moving VERY quickly and your immediate help is needed.
Introduced by state Senator John Lee (D-1), SB 231 would allow individuals who hold a Concealed Carry Weapons (CCW) permit to carry their firearm on the property of the Nevada System of Higher Education without first gaining permission from the university president, which is currently mandated by statute. It has been a long-held policy within the campus administration to not allow permit holders to carry, which has created an environment where students, faculty and staff are left defenseless in gun-free zones.
