The Illinois State Police is turning to one of the state's most respected public figures to make its case that the names of gun owners should be kept private: Former Gov. James Thompson. Thompson will appear in a Peoria court as early as next month to argue that the Illinois Attorney General's Office was wrong when it issued an opinion that state police should publicize the names of the 1.3 million people in the state with Firearm Owner Identification cards.
