House Bill 40, Castle Doctrine legislation, has been introduced in the state House of Representatives by Representative Scott Perry (R-92). In 2010, both the state House and Senate overwhelming passed this important self-defense legislation, which was vetoed by anti-gun Governor Ed Rendell before he left office.
HB 40 would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their home and any place outside of their home where they have a legal right to be. If enacted into law, it would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used.
HB 40 has been assigned to the House Judiciary Committee and has not been scheduled for a hearing. Please continue to check your e-mail and www.NRAILA.org for updates on HB 40.
