Please Contact Your State Representative and Senator Immediately!
The vote on the discharge petition for House Bill 40 was postponed until tomorrow, Tuesday, September 28, pending a vote on House Bill 1926. State Senator Richard Alloway (R-33) has filed an amendment to HB1926 containing language similar to HB40. HB1926 is currently being considered by the Senate.
HB40 and Senator Alloway’s proposed amendment would permit law-abiding citizens to use force, including deadly force, against an attacker in their homes and any places outside of their home where they have a legal right to be. If enacted, this law would also protect individuals from civil lawsuits by the attacker or the attacker’s family when force is used. Please continue to contact your State Representative and respectfully urge them to vote for the discharge petition and to support HB40 on the floor. Also, please contact your State Senator to urge their support of HB1926 with the Alloway amendment. Contact information can be found by clicking here.
