NRA-PVF Endorses Roy Blunt for U.S. Senate in Missouri

Friday, September 3, 2010

Fairfax, Va.-- The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) for election to the U.S. Senate this November.

“Roy Blunt fights for our freedom. He earned the NRA-PVF endorsement by supporting our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage every time,” said Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association. “Missouri’s gun owners and hunters need that level of dedication in the U.S. Senate.”

Rep. Blunt cosponsored and voted for the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act, which would repeal the D.C. gun ban/registration statute and restore the right of self-defense with firearms to law-abiding residents of our nation’s capital. He cosponsored and voted for legislation to end reckless lawsuits against gun manufacturers and voted to prohibit gun confiscation from law-abiding Americans during states of emergency.

Blunt signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the individual right to keep and bear arms in the historic Heller case. He also signed the congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that applies to all Americans, no matter where they live, in the McDonald case. In addition, Rep. Blunt cosponsored and voted for the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity amendment, which would extend federal protection of state right-to-carry licenses and permits across the country, and legislation to force much-needed reform of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Alternatively, Blunt’s opponent Robin Carnahan earned an “F” rating from the NRA-PVF and refused to answer our federal candidate questionnaire this year and in years past. This negligence is often an indication of indifference, if not outright hostility, to the rights of gun owners and sportsmen. Carnahan also led the effort in 1999 to defeat Missouri Proposition B that would require local police authorities to issue concealed weapons permits to eligible citizens.

“Roy Blunt’s pro-gun voting record and steadfast support for individual gun ownership rights speaks for itself, and it earned him an “A” rating from the NRA-PVF,” Cox continued. “We ask all Missouri gun-owners, hunters and NRA members to vote for Roy Blunt for the U.S. Senate on November 2nd.”

Chris W. Cox is NRA's chief lobbyist. He also serves as chairman of NRA-PVF. The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund is responsible for political candidate rankings. These are based on candidate voting records, public statements and responses to NRA-PVF questionnaires.
