The federal long gun registry has drained resources from effective crime control for far too long and it's time to scrap it, Senator Bob Runciman (Ontario Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes) told members of the Senate on June 1. Runciman, speaking in favour of Bill C 391, Manitoba MP Candice Hoeppner's private members bill to disband the gun registry, noted that more than $2 billion has been wasted on the registry, which was originally estimated to cost $2 million.
