Gun control advocates squared off with tax dollar watchdogs Tuesday as a committee of MPs continued to debate the proposed demise of the long gun registry. Kevin Gaudet, federal director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, called Bill 391, a private member's bill from Conservative MP Candice Hoeppner, a "reasonable compromise" that would end a "substantial financial boondoggle. Some estimates peg the total cost of the program at $2 billion or more, and Gaudet said it is still costing more than $106 million a year.
