The House of Representatives passed House Bill 3298, introduced by State Representative Bakari Sellers (D-90), on Wednesday, May 19, by a vote of 104 to 0. Originally, this bill would have removed the restriction on transporting a handgun under the seat of your vehicle, and would allow a law-abiding gun owner to treat the area under his or her car seat similar to what current law allows regarding transporting a firearm in a closed glove compartment or console.
On Tuesday, May 18, the bill was amended to allow Right-to-Carry permit holders to store firearms under the seat, as well in “any open or closed storage compartment within the vehicle’s passenger compartment.” Unfortunately, efforts to include parking lot language, which we mentioned earlier this week, were unsuccessful. H. 3298 is now in the Senate, where it has been referred to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
Please begin contacting your State Senator and respectfully urge him or her to support H. 3298. Contact information can be found here.
