The Tuscaloosa City Council Public Safety Committee voted unanimously to ban firearms from city buildings and facilities. The city already prohibits city employees, except police officers, from possessing firearms on the job. The new ordinance would ban all citizens from entering city facilities with firearms. The new ordinance must go before the full City Council for approval.

Today, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois struck down provisions of the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA) that prohibit “assault weapons” and “large-capacity magazines” in an NRA-supported case, Barnett v. Raoul.
