Sponsored by State Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), SB51 would have removed the governor’s ability to “suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation” of firearms during a declared state of emergency.
Lawmakers thought they addressed this issue years ago, but it was discovered that a drafting oversight actually left a component of the old law on the books. Rather than fix this oversight, the Democratic Majority leadership in the Senate opted to send this legislation to their "kill committee" where pro-gun legislation has consistently been defeated on similar partisan votes during the last few years.
