Ellwood City Council recently passed an amendment to the Ellwood City Code of Ordinances making it unlawful for any person other than a certified law enforcement officer of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or another state, or the Federal Government to possess a gun, firearm, or weapon in any Borough building, real estate, vehicle or equipment.
This ordinance is a direct violation of the state preemption law enacted by the Pennsylvania State Legislature. Without preemption there would be a myriad of local firearm laws making compliance nearly impossible for law-abiding gun owners. In fact, gun owners would have difficulty even knowing about laws, much less understanding them.
Please contact Mayor Don Clyde (D) and the members of the Ellwood City Council TODAY at (724) 758-7777 and respectfully urge Mayor Clyde to veto this legislation and the City Council to take no further action.
