Beginning July 1, new hunters may get a one-year exemption from hunter-education requirements. Since 1973, all hunters born on or after July 1, 1957 had to have completed hunter-education training before carrying a gun or bow afield. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks commission approved an "apprentice hunting license" earlier this year.
