This week, the House gave final approval to Senate Bill 112, sponsored by Senator John Corona (R-16), legislation preventing the confiscation of firearms from law-abiding citizens during a future state of emergency or natural disaster, such as occurred following Hurrican Katrina. The bill now moves to Governor Rick Perry (R) for his expected signature.
Many thanks to NRA members for your calls and emails in support of this important bill.
Please take a moment to thank the bill sponsors for their hard work on this issue: Sen. John Carona (R-Dallas) at [email protected] and Rep. Frank Corte (R-San Antonio) at [email protected].
Another important NRA-supported bill, HB 1815 by Rep. Carl Isett (R-84), remains in the House Calendars Committee and has not yet been set for a vote by the full House. HB 1815 would clear up any ambiguities in the Texas Penal Code to make it clear that law-abiding Texans can possess handguns in their personal vehicles without needing a Concealed Handgun License.
