This week, Governor Haley Barbour (R), signed HB 1141 which was authored by Representative Warner McBride (D-Courtland), and managed on the Senate floor by Senator Charlie Ross (R-Brandon). This NRA-backed bill contains language: (1) allowing hunting to continue on certain land annexed by a city or county, even if that locality has an ordinance banning the discharge of firearms within its limits; (2) prohibiting the seizure and confiscation of firearms by local officials in the unfortunate event of a future natural disaster in Mississippi; and (3) permitting employees to transport and store firearms in their locked private vehicles while parked on their employer's property if the employer does not provide secure parking separate from the public.
