Current and retired Ohio County, W. Va., law officers sought certification to carry their weapons while not in uniform as a result of a bill intended to protect them and the public. Those officers that qualify can carry their firearms virtually anywhere in the U.S. without having to worry about violating local or state gun laws. Previously, it was up to the state to determine if its off-duty and retired officers could be armed.
