The United Nations will hold a global gun control forum from July 7-11 in New York. The meeting is a follow-up to a similar forum in 2001, which established its Program of Action, designed to "prevent, combat and eradicate the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects." It should be noted that the U.N. defines "small arms" as weapons for personal use. This includes not only sporting shotguns, rifles and handguns, but machine guns, portable anti-tank guns and grenade launchers."
