West Virginia Cuts Varsity Rifle Program

West Virginia University dropped a bombshell in its athletic program when Athletic Director Ed Pastilong revealed that five varsity sports are being eliminated, starting with the 2003-04 school year.The unexpected reduction involves rifle, men`s tennis, men`s cross country and men`s indoor and outdoor track. West Virginia has the most successful rifle program in NCAA history, winning 13 national championships and producing 12 Olympians. Eight titles have come under coach Marsha Beasley, who has had 28 shooters receive a total of 118 All-American awards.
