Senate Bill 33, Right to Carry Reciprocity has been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. This bill would give valid carry permit holders from other states that have similar issuing requirements as North Carolina the ability to carry their firearm for personal protection in North Carolina. This, in turn, will encourage more states to recognize North Carolina permits. Moreover, a gun show amendment to close the so-called "gun show loophole" was overwhelmingly defeated in committee. The reciprocity bill now heads to the Senate floor for consideration and could be voted on as early as next week.
Please contact the members of the Senate Judiciary committee to thank them for their support. Please take a moment to contact your Senator and urge them to support SB 33 when it comes before them on the floor. Remind them that a law-abiding citizens right to protect themselves and their families should not end simply because they have crossed state lines.
