Minnesota politics took an edgy turn Saturday night when Republicans staged an in-your-face protest outside the Fine Line Cafe in downtown Minneapolis, where Hollywood celebrity Alec Baldwin appeared at a DFL fundraiser for gubernatorial candidate Roger Moe and U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone. Baldwin, an outspoken liberal and a supporter of the controversial animal rights activist group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, has become a lightning rod for Republican criticism and often draws protests at appearances across the country.
