The clock is ticking on passage of Right to Carry this year. Senate Bill 938, sponsored by Senator John Cauthorn (R-18), and House Bill 1729, sponsored by Representative Frank Barnitz (D-150), have both passed committee and are now under consideration by their respective legislative bodies. However, these bills could be doomed to legislative purgatory if the General Assembly leadership doesn’t grant them consideration. It is vital that these bills be voted on soon. Enthusiastic support from NRA members will help ensure that Right to Carry legislation comes up for a vote this session.
Two other important bills are currently pending in the Missouri House. HB 1680, which stops reckless lawsuits against firearms manufacturers, and HB 1344 (sponsored by Rep. Crump, D-152), which allows carry of concealable firearms in vehicles and authorizes a Project Exile program were tentatively approved this week and will come up for final approval as soon as next week. It is vital that your representatives know how important these bills are and that you support them. The Senate is also considering gun legislation. SB 1027, a reckless lawsuit bill; and SB 689, which establishes Project Exile are all out of committee and up for votes.
Contact your Senator and Representative and urge them to support these bills. The House of Representatives’ Information number is (573) 751-3659, and the Senate’s is (573) 751-3824.
