Today`s Washington Post is reporting, "Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran is proposing a wide-ranging package of laws that would make the state`s gun control regulations among the strictest in the nation and says his ultimate goal is a ban on handguns." Ironically, Maryland has a crime rate 2.5 times that of neighboring Virginia (FBI UCR) but has jailed only 1/3 as many criminals for federal firearm law violations as Virginia (TRAC).

Today, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois struck down provisions of the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA) that prohibit “assault weapons” and “large-capacity magazines” in an NRA-supported case, Barnett v. Raoul.
