The owner of an Evergreen Park, Ill., car wash was closing up shop when an armed intruder struck him on the head with the butt of a pistol. The gunman then forced Richard Grotemeyer to walk to the cashier's cage to hand over the day's receipts, but the owner grabbed a 9 mm semi-auto and ran from the room. The burglar chased him and began shooting. The owner returned fire and seriously wounded his assailant. Authorities said it was likely the suspect would be charged with armed robbery and possibly attempted murder.
