Awakened at 3:25 a.m. by "a man pawing at her," a 23-year-old St. Louis woman pushed her small son out of bed and began struggling with the knife-wielding assailant. She was able to reach a pistol under her mattress and fire a shot at the man, who fled. Police later arrested a suspect, wounded in the left elbow, and charged him with first-degree burglary, first-degree sexual abuse, and unlawful use of a weapon.
