FAIRFAX, VA. The National Rifle Association (NRA) is pleased to announce that Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (Ruger) has pledged to donate $1 for each gun sold between the 2011 and 2012 NRA Annual Meetings, with the goal of giving $1,000,000 to the NRA if Ruger sells one million new Ruger firearms during the period.
“Our goal is to present the NRA with a check for one million dollars during the 141st NRA Annual Meeting in St. Louis, Missouri next April," said Ruger CEO and NRA Golden Ring of Freedom member Mike Fifer. “This substantial donation would reflect a record-breaking feat in the firearms industry, as we believe no company has ever sold one million firearms in a 12-month period. With the help of America’s gun buyers, we hope to make history and to share that accomplishment with the NRA.”
When fulfilled next year, Ruger’s donation will benefit the NRA Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA). Established in 1975, NRA-ILA is committed to preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals to purchase, possess, and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
“We are so thankful to Ruger for creating the Million Gun Challenge at such a critical time in our nation’s history,” stated NRA-ILA Executive Director Chris Cox. “Firearms owners are in for the fight of their lives in 2012 and every dollar will be put to good use to ensure that our constitutional right to keep and bear arms is secure.”
NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre added, “Our friends at Ruger have long supported the work of the NRA and the Million Gun Challenge takes their commitment to the next level. The NRA is grateful for their leadership and dedication to the cause of freedom. Ruger customers can be proud that not only are they getting top quality firearms, they are securing the future of our Second Amendment.”
