NRA has reported for the past four years about Barack Obama's long anti-gun record.
He tries to convince gun owners that he is not anti-gun, even as his administration has taken numerous actions that attack gun owners' rights, such as imposing multiple sales reporting requirements on some long guns, and protecting Eric Holder from cooperating with the "Fast & Furious" investigation.
But on July 25th, in a speech to the Urban League, Obama showed his real beliefs, when he once again endorsed a ban on semi-auto firearms.
"A lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals," he said. "They belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities."
He went on to tout the executive actions he has taken without Congressional approval.
"We've been able to take some actions on our own, recognizing that it's not always easy to get things through Congress these days . . ."
This willingness to take executive action without prior congressional approval has become a hallmark of the Obama Administration, and, while Obama did not advocate for specific anti-gun legislation, gun owners should have great concern about what unilateral action Obama would be willing to take if re-elected, where he never has to face the voters again. Obama knows that as a second-term president, he will be free to move forward with his personal anti-gun agenda; an agenda that has included endorsing a total ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of all handguns; a ban on the sale or transfer of all semi-automatic firearms; the backing of a 500 percent increase in federal taxes on guns and ammunition; voting to ban single-shot, over-under and side-by-side shotguns; and stating that the right of lawful citizens to carry a firearm for personal protection should be banned nationwide. He has even supported efforts to prohibit Americans from keeping a gun in their own homes for self-defense.
Despite the camouflage, gun owners can see the truth: Barack Obama is an anti-gun politician, whose anti-gun agenda represents a far-reaching threat to our Second Amendment rights, especially as a second-term president.
