"Castle Doctrine" Legislation: Protecting Your Right to Protect Yourself

A long-standing Oklahoma law states that a homicide is justifiable when in defense of one’s self or one’s child against a violent felony, including one within the home. However, while that might appear to provide perfect legal protection to many individuals who defend themselves against criminals, such is not the case.

New York Officials Argue for Flexibility with Gun Law Violators… As Long as They're on the City's Payroll

Some of New York's most strident gun control advocates have rushed to the defense of an unwitting traveler who was arrested at an airport for a technical violation of a draconian gun law.  Has a new era of sanity arrived in the Big Apple?  Not really.  This defendant happens to be an NYPD officer who is alleged to have violated India's strict firearm regulations.

On Monday, NRA filed formal comments in opposition to a plan by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) to expand the categories of persons prohibited under federal law from acquiring or possessing firearms because of having been "adjudicated as a mental defective" or "committed to a mental institution."  The proposal is commonly referred to by its BATFE docket number, 51P.

Outrage of the Week: Zero-Tolerance Policies Now Exploited by Enterprising Bullies

There is a long history of school administrators behaving like bullies when enforcing the irrational zero-tolerance policies that have ensnared scores of students.  A recent case out of Vernon, N.J., however, suggests that the hysterical enforcement of these policies in some schools has reached a level where an actual peer bully can exploit zero-tolerance to torment a victim.

Rasmussen Polls: Important Findings for Both Sides in Gun Control Debate

Polls of likely voters, conducted by Rasmussen Reports over the last 15 months, have been trending significantly against gun control supporters, but also serve as a warning to those who believe the Second Amendment is safe from further erosion.First, the bad news for gun control supporters.  Since December 2012, support for stricter gun control has dropped by about 22% among likely voters.Readers may recall the alarming situation in January 2013, when Vice-President Joe “Two Blasts” Biden was heading up a task force to rubber stamp the gun control schemes that President Obama wanted.  Gun control supporters at that time believed they had the momentum necessary to achieve “universal checks,” as well as a new and more severe ban on “assault weapons” and “large” magazines.

Chris W. Cox Calls Anti-Gun Sportscaster's Bluff

Bloomberg's Publicity Hounds Howl for Attention Following Ft. Hood Crime

The day after a soldier armed with a handgun murdered three, wounded 16, and killed himself on Ft. Hood, in central Texas, Michael Bloomberg’s two anti-gun groups--Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) and Moms Demand Action--issued a joint press release admitting, “we don’t know all the details.” This did not stop them, however, from offering “spokespeople available for comment and TV interviews (from NYC, DC and via satellite).”  Knowledge of details—and facts—have never stood as an impediment for anti-gun groups to start prescribing their usual remedies.

In Final Farewell Piers Morgan Calls For Total Gun Ban

After months of ranting and raving about “universal” checks, bans on semi-automatic rifles, and bans on standard-capacity ammunition magazines designed for defensive purposes, Piers Morgan ended his last TV show last Saturday byadvocating an end to civilian ownership of all firearms.  Lecturing Americans one last time, Morgan said “guns belong on a military battlefield. . . . Not in the hands of civilians.”

FBI Arrests Anti-Gun California Senator on Firearm Trafficking Charges

Being good Americans, we take the position that anyone who is arrested and charged with multiple crimes is innocent until proven guilty. That's more than California state senator Leland Yee (D) has done for gun owners in the past.

"News" Magazines Pretend Murthy Confirmation is a Public Health Imperative

Defensive gun uses far outnumber suicides with guns and the availability of guns has no effect on suicide rates. Nevertheless, from time to time over the last 28 years, gun control supporters have tried to discourage people from owning guns by suggesting that gun suicides outnumber defensive gun uses.

Outrage of the Week: RI State Senator tells Second Amendment Supporter to "Go *Bleep* Yourself"

This week's outrage comes to us by way of Rhode Island; from the Rhode Island State House, as a matter of fact.  It was there, at the State House, that State Sen. Josh Miller (D-Cranston, Warwick) had one of those defining moments.  Something along the lines of Michael Dukakis and the tank ad, or Howard Dean and the infamous scream.  Only this was different, in that it was disgraceful--not only to Sen. Miller, but to his office and the people he serves.  And, it offers insight into the kind of politician, and person, Miller is.

For Gun Controllers Honesty is NOT the Best Policy

Last Friday, Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) expressed to the audience of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher that he hopes the Democratic Party come outs, not just in favor of more gun control, but against the Second Amendment itself.   This is merely the latest episode of an elected official pulling back the curtain on the extreme contempt with which some politicians view the Second Amendment.  The exchange took place during a lengthy discussion on gun control between Maher and his three guests.  After lamenting that the Democratic Party was not anti-gun enough, Maher asked Ellison, "Then why doesn't your party come out against the Second Amendment? It's the Problem."  Ellison responded by stating, "I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would."

In its search for anti-gun-group relevance, "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America" recently took credit for an action they apparently had no hand in provoking.  In a Washington Times op-ed piece, Emily Miller details how the Michael Bloomberg-funded "Moms" group falsely claimed victory in "forcing" a billboard company to take down a "Slide Fire" gun-related billboard ad in Chicago.

More Fuzzy Math: Gun Control Supporters Misrepresent Gun Owner Trends

President Obama absurdly suggested during his State of the Union address in January that "citizenship" means going along with the gun control agenda that he's been pushing for the past 15 months.  Nevertheless, anti-gunners -- not banking on Obama's promise to impose that agenda "without Congress" -- are trying to convince politicians that they can vote for gun control without fear of repercussions on Election Day.

Brady's Fuzzy Math on NICS Denials

The Brady Campaign released a report this week claiming that in its first 20 years, the NICS background check system has blocked more than 2.1 million gun purchases.  Brady would have you believe each of those denials prevented a dangerous person from getting a gun.  They would also have you believe their numbers prove the system should be expanded to include all firearm transfers, rather than just those occurring between licensed dealers and their unlicensed customers, as is the case now.

A Tale of Two Realities: A Gun Controller's Slanderous Rhetoric and a Mother's Stand to Save Her Children

Despite current restrictions that place New Jersey well outside the American mainstream, gun controllers and some state lawmakers have made clear their intent to push even further in 2014, with wide-ranging legislation targeting nearly every aspect of the remaining gun freedom Garden State residents enjoy (or cling to, perhaps more accurately).  Chief among these proposals is a bill that would lower the magazine capacity limit from the current 15 down to 10. And it appears gun control advocates are prepared to sink to any level of rhetorical excess to get it passed.

Two Anniversaries Gun Control Supporters Aren't Celebrating

Gun control supporters have lately used the 20th anniversary of Bill Clinton's signing of the Brady Act into law as an excuse to repeat their demand for "universal" background checks.  Even though most people who commit crimes with guns defeat the Brady Act by getting their guns by theft, on the black market, or from straw purchasers, anti-gunners have portrayed the law as having saved countless lives. Nevertheless, the gun ban movement is altogether ignoring two other significant anniversaries associated with its efforts.
