Mississippi: Governor Phil Bryant Urges Mississippians to Celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day. Sportsmen are Encouraged to Support Amendment 1 on November 4

Friday, September 26, 2014

Governor Phil Bryant (R) issued a press release today encouraging Mississippians to celebrate “National Hunting and Fishing Day” this Saturday, September 27.

“As a 2nd Amendment advocate, hunting and fishing have always been a part of my life, even as a young child growing up in the Mississippi Delta,” Gov. Bryant said. “Deborah and I enjoy spending time outdoors in Mississippi whenever possible.  Whether it’s fishing on the Gulf Coast, hunting big deer in the Mississippi Delta or chasing turkeys in north Mississippi, I cherish my time with friends and family.  I encourage everyone to take a child hunting or fishing this weekend.”

Congress passed legislation in 1972 declaring the fourth Saturday of September to be “National Hunting and Fishing Day” in an effort to promote the outdoor sports and conservation efforts.  National, state and local organizations host thousands of events across the country each year that provide individuals and families an opportunity to learn more about hunting, fishing, shooting activities and wildlife conservation.

“Outdoorama on the Rez” is one such event and it will be held in the Magnolia State on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Turcotte Education & Shooting Facility at Ross Barnett Reservoir.  Hosted by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) and Mississippi Wildlife Federation, this FREE event will give adults and children a chance to hone their outdoor skills or learn them for the first time.  Activities will include instruction on how to reload shells, shoot skeet and sporting clays, tie flies, fish for catfish, canoe and practice archery.   For more information, visit here.

Whether you attend this or another event in your area, or simply take the time to participate in your favorite sporting activity, the NRA urges the public to get outdoors and celebrate “National Hunting & Fishing Day” this Saturday!  And be sure to spread the word to fellow sportsmen about Amendment 1 on the November 4 ballot, establishing an individual constitutional Right to Hunt and Fish.  This important safeguard will ensure that future wildlife conservation and management decisions are based on sound science and will protect the state’s strong hunting heritage for generations to come.  For more details on Amendment 1, visit www.nraila.org/RightToHuntMS.
