Today, the House Civil Justice Committee passed House Bill 1399 and House Bill 1480 by a voice vote.
Sponsored by state Representative Judd Matheny (R-47), HB 1399 would strengthen the current state firearms preemption statute by giving all authority relating to firearms laws and regulations to the General Assembly, with the exception of the discharge of firearms. HB 1399 will now go to the House Calendar and Rules Committee where it will be scheduled for a vote on the House floor.
HB 1480, sponsored by state Representative Jeremy Faison (R-11), would allow a law-abiding gun owner to carry a loaded firearm in his or her own vehicle without a handgun carry permit (HCP). Due to an erroneous fiscal note, which has now been removed, HB 1480 has been referred to the House Finance, Ways and Means Subcommittee.
Please contact your state Representative TODAY and respectfully urge him or her to vote in SUPPORT of HB 1399. Contact information for your state Representative can be found here.
