Missouri: Multiple Pro-Gun Bills Receive Hearing in House Committee

Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Yesterday, March 4, the House General Laws Committee conducted a hearing at which multiple pro-gun bills were presented and testimony was taken.  The NRA-ILA would like to give a special thanks to the chairman of this committee, state Representative Caleb Jones (R-50), for allowing this hearing to take place.  While the hearing was completed, no votes were taken on any of the bills.  The following bills were presented in the House General Laws Committee:

House Bill 1778, sponsored by state Representative Jeanie Riddle (R-20), would prevent a landlord from prohibiting tenants from possessing a legally owned or possessed firearm in an individual residence or common areas.

House Bill 1591, sponsored by state Representative Wanda Brown (R-57), states that there shall be no more than 40 students per qualified firearms safety instructor during the classroom portion of a firearms safety training course.  Current Missouri law only allows 40 students per classroom, regardless of whether or not there is more than one instructor present.

House Bill 1539, sponsored by state Representative Mike Kelley (R-127), would modify the current concealed carry training requirement, which requires an individual shoot both a revolver and semi-automatic pistol, and would allow someone to shoot only one firearm rather than both firearms.

House Bill 1474, sponsored by state Representative Rick Brattin (R-55), would allow any school district to designate a teacher or administrator as a school protection officer to carry a concealed firearm after he or she has met specified training requirements.

While a date has not yet been scheduled for these bills to receive a vote, please call and e-mail members of the House General Laws Committee and respectfully urge them to vote for the bills listed above.  Your NRA-ILA will let you know when these bills are expected to come up for a vote.  Contact information for committee members is provided below.
