Missouri: Senate to Vote on De-facto Gun Owner Registry on Monday

Friday, February 14, 2014

Yesterday, after many calls from you, Senate Bill 613 was placed on the Missouri Senate calendar for third reading on Monday, February 17.  As reported yesterday, SB 613 was amended during the Senate floor debate with anti-gun language similar to that contained in Senate Bill 556 and Senate Bill 565, both sponsored by anti-gun state Senator Jamilah Nasheed (D-5).  This modified anti-gun provision would require every person to report the theft of a firearm they possess to a local law enforcement agency.  Any missing firearm must be reported within 72 hours of the time he or she knew or “reasonably should have known” that the firearm had been stolen.

Past victims of burglary who had reported their guns stolen to law enforcement, admit to receiving numerous letters on the whereabouts of the firearm annually.  Such correspondence is proof that the reporting of a lost or stolen firearm directly enrolls an individual into a registry of gun owners.

It is imperative that you call your state Senator and respectfully urge him or her to OPPOSE Senate Bill 613 as long as it includes Senator Nasheed’s anti-gun amendment.  Contact information for your state Senator is provided below.
