A national anti-gun group calling itself “Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” founded and funded by billionaire extremist New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, has attempted to impose their New York style gun control views in Nevada reports the New York Times.
MAIG has gone as far as launching ads attacking Governor Brian Sandoval (R) for indicating that he would veto anti-gun Senate Bill 221 if it reaches his desk. It is critical that you contact your state legislators and Governor Sandoval NOW and respectfully express your opposition to Senate Bill 221 and encourage them to stand strong to defend the rights of law-abiding gun owners in Nevada.
Senate Bill 221, sponsored by Senator Justin Jones (D-9) still awaits consideration in the Assembly Judiciary Committee. Tomorrow is the final day of the 2013 legislative session and Senate Bill 221 could be brought up for consideration at any moment in committee and then quickly move to the Assembly floor for approval. If enacted into law, Senate Bill 221 would ban all private firearm transfers, absent an exception, unless conducted through a gun dealer. Even transactions that do not require a background check – such as those involving a concealed firearm permit holder – would still be required to go through a gun dealer and would be subject to a fee. This onerous requirement creates unnecessary hurdles and fees that will ONLY impact and punish law-abiding gun owners. Additionally, Senate Bill 221 carries penalties so severe for violations of this proposed law that failure to follow them exactly would result in temporary, and even permanent, loss of your fundamental Second Amendment rights.
TOMORROW is the FINAL day of the 2013 Nevada legislative session and your voice must be heard NOW! Please respectfully contact your state Assemblyman and Senator (in case SB 221 returns to the Senate for concurrence with Assembly amendments) and urge them to oppose this dangerous and harmful legislation. Contact information for your state legislators can be found here.
