Yesterday, the Tennessee Senate passed House Bill 6 by an overwhelming 27-6 vote. This measure passed in the Tennessee House by an 82 to 15 vote on April 16, and is now eligible for Governor Bill Haslam’s signature.
Introduced by state Representative Eric Watson (R-22), HB 6 would allow a person employed or assigned to a Local Education Agency to possess and carry a firearm on the grounds of that school if they are current or former law enforcement. The individual would also be required to have a Tennessee Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) and the written authorization of the director of schools.
Please contact Governor Haslam and respectfully ask him to sign House Bill 6 into law. Let him know this is a critical measure to protect students and faculty, should the need arise, in the Volunteer State.
