Today, important progress was made in the Tennessee General Assembly in order to protect the privacy of all Handgun Carry Permit (HCP) holders when the state House concurred with the state Senate’s technical amendment to House Bill 9. This critical confidentiality protection legislation now goes to Governor Bill Haslam for approval. Please contact Governor Haslam today and ask him to sign House Bill 9 into law.
House Bill 9/Senate Bill 108 would make all information pertaining to HCP holders confidential and not open for public inspection or publication. The overwhelming support for this legislation was demonstrated by its 84-10 passage in the House and 27-2 passage in the Senate.
We thank the bill sponsors, state Representative William Lamberth (R-44) and state Senator Ferrell Haile (R-18), for their hard work and dedication to this legislation. The NRA also thanks state legislators who voted in favor of protecting the information of all HCP holders and providing Tennesseans the same protections that residents in 38 other states already enjoy due to Right-to-Carry confidentiality laws in place.
Recently in New York, information of those who possess pistol permits was published and their home addresses were a placed on an interactive map. Unfortunately, reports indicate that multiple burglaries and the theft of firearms occurred from those residencies. If HB 9 is enacted into law, it would ensure this invasion of privacy would never happen in Tennessee.
Please contact Governor Haslam TODAY and respectfully urge him to support the privacy of responsible gun owners in the Volunteer State by signing House Bill 9 into law.
Governor Bill Haslam
