Maryland: Legislators to Consider Amendment to Gun Control Bill in Deceptive Attempt to Evade Responsibility

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

In the final days of session, a vote could take place at any time – Act NOW!

As early as tomorrow, the Maryland House of Delegates will be considering amendments to Senate Bill 281, Governor O’Malley’s extreme anti-gun legislation.  One of the amendments would delegate the banning of at least 45 specific commonly owned semi-automatic firearms to the Maryland Handgun Roster Board.  The Handgun Roster Board is a government entity made up of appointed - not elected - officials.  Currently, the role of this board is to approve certain types of firearms before they are allowed to be sold in the state of Maryland.  The amendment currently under consideration would farm out the decision to take away your property and your rights to government bureaucrats who are immune from the democratic process and do not need to face re-election.

Approval of this amendment would be nothing more than an evasion of duties by the Maryland General Assembly.  Any attempt to limit or take away your rights should be properly vetted by the officials that the people of Maryland have elected – not by a board filled with political appointees who do the Governor’s bidding.   Do not allow your state delegates to “pass the buck” on their duties and responsibilities just so they can attempt to claim that they had no part in the banning of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms.

The final days of the 2013 session are approaching, and Governor O’Malley is desperately pressuring the legislature to pass his deeply flawed gun control bill.  A vote could take place at any time!  Please contact your state Delegate or Delegates NOW and urge them to oppose any amendment which delegates the task of regulating firearms from elected lawmakers and makes it the job of government bureaucrats to legislate away your right to self-defense.

Contact information for your state legislators can be found here.
