Massachusetts: Westford Faces Impending Gun Ban and Confiscation of Commonly Owned Firearms and Magazines

Monday, February 11, 2013

The Westford Board of Selectmen is currently pursuing an extremely restrictive ordinance that would infringe on your Second Amendment rights and inhibit your inherent right to self-defense.

This ordinance, as currently drafted, would ban the ownership and possession of magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition and commonly owned semi-automatic firearms used for self-defense and sporting purposes in Westford.  Unless you remove these items from the town, you would be forced to surrender possession of your lawfully owned firearms and magazines to the Chief of Police within ninety days of the effective date.  If you fail to do so, you will be subject to egregious fines for simply exercising your constitutional Right to Bear Arms.

It is unclear how this gun ban would apply to visitors and whether those passing through the town would be subject to these misguided regulations.  As those in neighboring communities might be unaware of the local ordinance, an unassuming trip to the Westford Sportsmen’s Club to target shoot could be deemed an illegal activity.

Do not be victimized by your Board of Selectmen.  Please make plans to attend the Board meeting tomorrow, February 12 at 7:30 pm.  This meeting will be held in the main meeting room of the Town Hall located at 55 Main Street in Westford.  This meeting will determine whether or not the ordinance will be considered at the Town Meeting on March 23.

If you cannot attend this meeting, please call AND e-mail Town Selectmen TODAY and tell them to stop infringing on the rights of law-abiding citizens and to reject this ordinance.  Their contact information can be found below:
