Georgia: NRA-Backed Bill on the Move

Thursday, February 28, 2013

Yesterday, Senate Bill 101, sponsored by state Senator Frank Ginn (R-47), was passed unanimously by the Senate Judiciary Non-Civil Committee.

SB 101 contains three strong pro-gun measures that will greatly benefit gun rights supporters in Georgia.  SB 101 would do the following:

  • Remove the costly and unnecessary duplicative state required license for a firearms dealer, ensuring that firearms dealers are only required to have a Federal Firearms License (FFL).
  • Enhances the current reciprocity for out-of-state concealed carry permit holders traveling through the great state of Georgia and sets legal precedent for other states to follow suit.
  • Preempts the ban on firearms in public housing, as the necessity of self-defense is paramount regardless of where you call home.

SB 101 has moved to the state Senate Rules Committee where action is expected on either Tuesday, March 5 or Wednesday, March 6.

Please call and e-mail members of the Senate Rules Committee and respectfully urge them to support SB 101.  Contact information for Senate Rules Committee members is provided below:
