The legislature is currently debating legislation, House Bill 1174, which would permanently extend the database of concealed handgun permit licensees. Unfortunately, this database has been used in the past to justify unwarranted searches of law-abiding gun owners’ vehicles and other abuses. State Senator Gail Schwartz (D-5) opposed this legislation in the past but recently changed her mind and voted for it.
