A frequent customer entered Baker’s Mini Mart in Tampa, Fla. and asked for change from owner Taquanda Baker. Baker made change for the man, who then left. About a half an hour later the man returned, armed with a gun, and attempted to rob the store. Baker responded by retrieving a gun and shooting the criminal, ending the robbery. When police arrived, the wounded robber was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

When speaking to local media, Baker described herself as “heartbroken” over the incident, but explained, “I have to protect myself.” Baker has also taken steps to protect herself while away from her store, as police confirmed she is a Right-to-Carry permit holder.
