Bob Costas interrupts football game to bash American gun owners

When celebrities and media personalities attempt to plumb the depths of our social consciousness, the result is rarely pretty. Such was the case Sunday night when NBC sportscaster Bob Costas shamelessly tried to capitalize on the recent and tragic murder-suicide involving the NFL's Jovan Belcher to score personal political points against law-abiding gun owners.

Gun Owners Enter the Fight of Our Lives

The NRA has been saying all along that Barack Obama would unleash an assault on our Second Amendment freedoms if he won a second term. It sure didn't take long for him to prove us right.

One on One with Paul Ryan

On August 11, Gov. Mitt Romney named U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate in the 2012 presidential election. For gun owners, this was outstanding news. I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with Paul Ryan for decades, including during his seven terms in the U.S. House. Paul has been a consistent champion of our right to keep and bear arms. He is also an avid hunter who heads for the woods every year with a gun or a bow. He is a member of the NRA and shares our dedication to protecting the Second Amendment. To put it simply, he’s one of us. Amidst his suddenly hectic campaign schedule, I was fortunate to be able to spend some time with Paul so he could share his views with his fellow NRA members across the country.

One On One With Governor Mitt Romney

This year's election is going to define the future of our freedom, perhaps more than any other in our history. For gun owners, there are a number of areas crucial to the survival of our Second Amendment rights. That's why I took the time to visit with Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, to find out precisely where he stands on the issues of concern to gun owners.

Finding Eric Holder in Contempt Was Necessary to Discover the Truth

Attorney General Eric Holder's contempt of Congress is surpassed only by his contempt for the Second Amendment. With Holder as its primary spokesman, the Obama administration perpetuated the lie that "90 percent" of firearms used in Mexican crime come from the United States, for no other reason than to promote its agenda of banning commonly owned firearms.

America Needs to Get Furious... Fast

Attorney General Eric Holder's continued refusal to turn over "Fast and Furious" documents to House investigators — even in the face of being held in contempt by Congress — is another symptom of the disease of lawlessness that has been rotting our republic ever since President Barack Obama took office.

"Castle Doctrine" Legislation: Protecting Your Right to Protect Yourself

A long-standing Oklahoma law states that a homicide is justifiable when in defense of one’s self or one’s child against a violent felony, including one within the home. However, while that might appear to provide perfect legal protection to many individuals who defend themselves against criminals, such is not the case.

Gun Owners Score Wins in Spending Bill

If you pay any attention at all to policy debates in Washington, you’ve probably noticed that Congress and the president aren’t reaching agreement on much. Bills that pass in the House of Representatives aren’t coming up in the Senate. Bills that carry the president’s agenda in the Senate aren’t passing in the House. Part of that log jam is due to the difference in positions between the parties, and part of it is due to differences in how the two chambers structure debate. Some commentators condemn the resulting stalemate, while others argue that the Founders designed our system to produce exactly this result when the nation is so closely divided.

From Hope and Change to Hate and Fear

President Barack Obama has certainly changed the tone in Washington. What used to be a town well-known for partisan bickering has been transformed into a 24/7 hate fest. Obama may bemoan the rancor in Congress every time the cameras are rolling, but make no mistake, this acidic atmosphere is by his own design.

Obama to Congress: I'll decide what's constitutional

Election season is here, and you might think President Obama would be going out of his way to show voters that he can be trusted with the powers of the presidency. But you would be wrong. Just a few days before Christmas, Obama served notice to all Americans that he will continue to abuse executive privilege by seeking new ways to vilify gun owners and further his anti-gun agenda.

Exploding Myths About National Right to Carry (HR 822)

H.R. 822 is a good bill. It enhances Americans’ right to self-defense by enabling millions of permit holders to exercise their right to self-defense while traveling outside their home states. It would allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes.

Obama Administration Endangered Lives to Justify Gun Control

In all of my years fighting on behalf of the National Rifle Association to defend the Second Amendment, I never thought I would see a White House so vehemently opposed to gun ownership that it would be willing to arm violent criminals and endanger American lives in pursuit of a gun control agenda.

Gun ban lobby growing increasingly impatient with Obama

Ever since Attorney General Eric Holder stated in 2009 that the Obama administration would work to reinstate Bill Clinton’s so-called “assault weapons ban,” Jesse Jackson and the gun-control lobby have grown increasingly impatient. It isn’t enough that President Obama promised the Brady Campaign that he would work “under the radar” to enact their gun-control agenda. Jackson and his allies want the president to begin his war on the Second Amendment right now.

Congress Moves Closer to Restoring a Key Second Amendment Freedom

Thanks to the good work of millions of American gun owners and NRA members, Congress is moving closer to restoring one of our fundamental freedoms guaranteed by the Second Amendment. Michelle Obama's warning to gun owners

Nearly three years into President Obama’s first term in office, Michelle Obama finally said something with which I can agree. At a recent fundraiser for President Obama’s re-election campaign in Providence, Rhode Island, the first lady told her audience: “We stand at a fundamental crossroads for our country. You’re here because you know that in just 13 months, we’re going to make a choice that will impact our lives for decades to come … let’s not forget what it meant when my husband appointed those two brilliant Supreme Court justices … let’s not forget the impact that their decisions will have on our lives for decades to come.”

Obama and Holder Still Pleading Ignorance on 'Fast and Furious,' But It’s Getting Harder

As this scandal and the resulting cover-up grow bigger and more shocking by the day, President Obama and Eric Holder continue to shrug their shoulders and plead ignorance. Your right to self-defense shouldn't end at state borders

This Labor Day weekend, many families will pack up the car for one last road trip to the beach, lake or park before summer ends. Unfortunately, many of them will have to check their right to self-defense at the state border. Thankfully, there is legislation making its way through Congress that would fix this. The bill is the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 822) and it would allow any person with a valid, state-issued concealed firearm permit to exercise their right to carry a firearm in any other state that affords that right to its own residents.

MSM Misses Mark in Second Amendment Debate

In yesterday’s Washington Post, columnist E.J. Dionne takes President Obama to task for not standing up to "NRA bullies" and not doing enough to restrict the rights of gun owners nationwide. He also levels criticism at NRA for giving the President a metaphorical “slap in the face” by not agreeing to sit down with the President and his administration to seek common ground. Dionne misses the mark badly on several points.

Blind Alleys On The Information Superhighway

During World War II, soldiers stuck on troopships or remote bases would often start rumors, just for the sake of seeing how fast a tall tale would get back to them. Moving Targets

Every shooter and hunter knows that moving targets are the hardest to hit. Whether it's a flushing pheasant in a cornfield or a "mover" at a handgun match, a moving target tests your nerves and your skill. Second Amendment litigation is much the same, as some local governments have changed their laws to duck challenges based on the U.S. Supreme Court's historic Heller decision last summer.

Political Report: Same Anti-Gunners, Different Year

One of the most stinging blows that Hillary Clinton delivered to Barack Obama's presidential campaign came when she mocked his motto "change you can believe in," by altering it to "change you can Xerox." Now, even as she prepares to join the Obama administration as secretary of state, her criticism is ringing true. Ironically, her own appointment is the most obvious example. Obama is staffing his administration from top to bottom with refugees from the Clinton White House, including two of the most aggressive anti-gun operatives of that era. They, in turn, promise to bring the same approach to the Second Amendment that Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Janet Reno pioneered.

Before and after the Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Heller, other cases were playing out across the country, with huge implications for the rights of citizens in those jurisdictions. When the situation demands, NRA-ILA goes beyond legislative and political advocacy to defend the Second Amendment in court.

No Bullets, No Shooting!

All gun owners are familiar with the 17th century maxim, "Keep your powder dry." But if we expect to be gun owners in the 21st century, we have to update that to read, "Keep your powder-and all the rest of your ammunition-at all." That's because politicians who want to ban guns, but who don't have the votes in Congress and state legislatures, are trying to achieve the same effect by banning the manufacture, importation, sale and possession of as much ammunition as possible, and severely restricting the rest.
