When celebrities and media personalities attempt to plumb the depths of our social consciousness, the result is rarely pretty. Such was the case Sunday night when NBC sportscaster Bob Costas shamelessly tried to capitalize on the recent and tragic murder-suicide involving the NFL's Jovan Belcher to score personal political points against law-abiding gun owners.

The NRA has been saying all along that Barack Obama would unleash an assault on our Second Amendment freedoms if he won a second term. It sure didn't take long for him to prove us right.

On August 11, Gov. Mitt Romney named U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate in the 2012 presidential election. For gun owners, this was outstanding news. I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with Paul Ryan for decades, including during his seven terms in the U.S. House. Paul has been a consistent champion of our right to keep and bear arms. He is also an avid hunter who heads for the woods every year with a gun or a bow. He is a member of the NRA and shares our dedication to protecting the Second Amendment. To put it simply, he’s one of us. Amidst his suddenly hectic campaign schedule, I was fortunate to be able to spend some time with Paul so he could share his views with his fellow NRA members across the country.

This year's election is going to define the future of our freedom, perhaps more than any other in our history. For gun owners, there are a number of areas crucial to the survival of our Second Amendment rights. That's why I took the time to visit with Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, to find out precisely where he stands on the issues of concern to gun owners.

Attorney General Eric Holder's contempt of Congress is surpassed only by his contempt for the Second Amendment. With Holder as its primary spokesman, the Obama administration perpetuated the lie that "90 percent" of firearms used in Mexican crime come from the United States, for no other reason than to promote its agenda of banning commonly owned firearms.

Attorney General Eric Holder's continued refusal to turn over "Fast and Furious" documents to House investigators — even in the face of being held in contempt by Congress — is another symptom of the disease of lawlessness that has been rotting our republic ever since President Barack Obama took office.

A long-standing Oklahoma law states that a homicide is justifiable when in defense of one’s self or one’s child against a violent felony, including one within the home. However, while that might appear to provide perfect legal protection to many individuals who defend themselves against criminals, such is not the case.

If you pay any attention at all to policy debates in Washington, you’ve probably noticed that Congress and the president aren’t reaching agreement on much. Bills that pass in the House of Representatives aren’t coming up in the Senate. Bills that carry the president’s agenda in the Senate aren’t passing in the House. Part of that log jam is due to the difference in positions between the parties, and part of it is due to differences in how the two chambers structure debate. Some commentators condemn the resulting stalemate, while others argue that the Founders designed our system to produce exactly this result when the nation is so closely divided.

President Barack Obama has certainly changed the tone in Washington. What used to be a town well-known for partisan bickering has been transformed into a 24/7 hate fest. Obama may bemoan the rancor in Congress every time the cameras are rolling, but make no mistake, this acidic atmosphere is by his own design.

Election season is here, and you might think President Obama would be going out of his way to show voters that he can be trusted with the powers of the presidency. But you would be wrong. Just a few days before Christmas, Obama served notice to all Americans that he will continue to abuse executive privilege by seeking new ways to vilify gun owners and further his anti-gun agenda.

H.R. 822 is a good bill. It enhances Americans’ right to self-defense by enabling millions of permit holders to exercise their right to self-defense while traveling outside their home states. It would allow any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes.

Ever since Attorney General Eric Holder stated in 2009 that the Obama administration would work to reinstate Bill Clinton’s so-called “assault weapons ban,” Jesse Jackson and the gun-control lobby have grown increasingly impatient. Jackson and his allies want the president to begin his war on the Second Amendment right now.

This Labor Day weekend, many families will pack up the car for one last road trip to the beach, lake or park before summer ends. The bill is the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 822) and it would allow any person with a valid, state-issued concealed firearm permit to exercise their right to carry a firearm in any other state that affords that right to its own residents.

Obama is staffing his administration from top to bottom with
refugees from the Clinton White House, including two of the most

All gun owners are familiar with the 17th century maxim, "Keep your

ban guns, but who don't have the votes in Congress and state

manufacture, importation, sale and possession of as much ammunition
